“So, Sue Ellen, it’s mighty nice to have a rider in the front seat for a change,” I say, glancing over at my passenger from behind my spectacles. Even though I figure she must have realized who I am by now, I almost always drive with the ball cap and glasses on, and old habits die hard.
“Yeah. Hey, thanks again for the other night. I can’t tell you how embarrassed I am. I never drink like that, especially when I’m supposed to be working.” A blush creeps across her cheeks and she bites her lip, and I want so badly to lean over and kiss her, but I restrain myself.
She’s wearing a sexy red top with a black skirt, looking just as hot as she did in the yellow dress.
“Oh yeah, so how is work going?” I try to sound nonchalant, but I’m dying to talk more about her work and ask if she wants to interview me for Twang.
“Well, I think I blew it with that musician last night,” she admits.
Hold on.
“What do you mean?” I ask suspiciously, afraid I already know what she’s about to say.
“That Mack Crane guy I was supposed to review when you picked me up,” she says.
I can’t believe it.
She still doesn’t realize that I’m Mack Crane.
What have I gotten myself into?
I’m not sure what to do. It feels weird to reveal myself to her now. And if she doesn’t know who I am, what does she think my name is, anyway? I decide to toy with her a little bit.
“So, we were never properly introduced the other night. You can call me MC,” I say, reaching over to shake her hand as we stop at a red light. I feel a jolt of electricity as her fingers touch mine, and I almost want to pull my hand away. But I also almost want to rip off the skirt she’s wearing and fuck her right here, right now in the middle of traffic…
She laughs. “Nice to meet you, MC. I’m Sue Ellen, and let’s both pretend the other night never happened, okay?”
“Fine by me,” I grin. “So, tell me more about this musician?”
“Oh, my God, he’s amazing,” she gushes, her eyes glazing over as she smiles. My heart quickens and I’m touched by this woman’s approval. I have plenty of female fans, but for some reason if this girl didn’t like my work, I’d be crushed.
“Oh, yeah? What’s so great about him?”
“He’s got this incredible voice, honestly I’ve never heard anything like it. It’s smooth but also a little husky, and you can tell he really puts emotions behind all his songs. I spent all day researching him, and he writes all his own lyrics. Apparently, he was involved in some big truck accident about a year ago though, and caused a huge pileup? He was the only one injured, but a bunch of cars were totaled, and he had to go through months of recovery and physical therapy. I wonder why he hasn’t written anything about that yet.
